Thoughts for Father's Day

Yesterday was father's day and I really did not get to wish my father a happy Father's Day. I think he said he was going to some random place in France. Anyways, I'll wish him a happy Father's Day next time I talk to him. Sometimes I think that some fathers who get a grand Father's Day don't deserve a Father's Day and some fathers who don't get or expect much for Father's Day are sometimes the ones that really do deserve a great Father's Day. Of course there are fathers that deserve a grand Father's Day and get one, and those who don't deserve one that don't get one. And let us not forget the great words of the Solomon: "this is meaningless."

ANYWAYS, I decided to start to read Job. I read the first chapter and I though of what a good father is. God describes Job as blameless and upright; fears God and shuns evil (1:8, also 1:1). Of two paragraphs to describe the character of Job, one paragraph is used to describe how he handles his children:

His sons used to take turns holding feasts in their homes, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, 'perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.' This was Job's regular custom. -Job 1:5

Job's character was illustrated by the deep concerned for the spiritual state of his children. How many fathers can be described by how deeply committed they are to their children's spiritual state?
